The Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) at Brainwave provide assessment and management of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). The SLT will take a full case history to understand your child’s communication needs.
Assessment activities vary and are dependent upon the child. For many children, it is play-based because motivation and enjoyment are important for communication. For some children, tabletop or more formal activities are appropriate. After assessment and consultation, an individual home-based Therapy Programme is developed. This may include advice, strategies, targeted activities or therapy. Where possible, aids and resources are provided.
There are a range of ways that an SLT may help to support SLCN’s. These will always involve working with the parents and, where applicable, the school to create an environment that will support and facilitate an individual’s communication.
SLT’s are also skilled to assess and manage eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
