What it costs you (UK & Ireland)
Funding is available for assessments through our means tested Therapy Access Fund (TAF), with awards of up to 100% (excluding deposit).
All families are required to pay a £100 deposit for a child’s initial assessment or reassessment. This [deposit] will be taken when you book.
The initial assessment will cost £550 and reassessment £450. A £100 deposit will be taken when you book and will be taken off the fee. You can see a full list of our fees below.
When funds allow, we also offer support towards the travel costs between your home and your child’s assessment. This is only available to those receiving TAF support and is awarded based on your TAF Support Level, up to a maximum of £160.
We understand that these costs may be a barrier to you attending with your child. If so, please see our Further Support section below or contact us at bookings@brainwave.org.uk and we will be able to guide you on other sources of funding.
Travel Fund
Awards for travel costs between your home and our National Therapy Assessment Centre in Somerset, or Outreach Hubs. From 25% to 100% dependent on TAF Support Level and available funds (up to a maximum of £160 – only available to those receiving TAF support).
You will need to claim within two weeks of your visit, and upload receipts (if claiming for public transport). Please ask the team for more details, or complete the form via the link below: Family Travel Expenses Fund
Deposit
A universal £100 deposit confirms your child’s appointment (families receiving 100% TAF support can pay this in two instalments). The deposit is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation – view our Cancellation Policy here.
Therapy Access Fund (TAF)
Our Therapy Access Fund (TAF) has been implemented to help families access our vital services. Charitable trusts and other supporters have generously donated funds specifically for our TAF.
With awards from 25% to 100% depending on household income and available funds. We have an Online Calculator available to receive an indicative support level (click button below to access).
Details of support level payments are detailed in the table above and within the calculator results.
You will just need to fill in information about your income on a short application form.
Overseas Families
We are happy to support families from outside of the UK, but you will be charged at a non-subsidised rate:
What it costs us
It costs Brainwave around £4,000 a year to deliver a therapy programme for just one child. Thanks to the hard work of our fundraising and retail teams, we can subsidise most of these costs so that families can access the support they need.
In 2026, we must raise £2.2 million to continue providing our life-changing services, and we receive no government funding to help meet this amount.
