There are a wide range of communication difficulties which can include differences in the way children understand and use language (sometimes known as “developmental language disorder”), the way children interact socially and difficulties around a child’s speech. Some of these communication difficulties may be short-term or some may remain with the person throughout their childhood and adult life.
Speech, language and communication needs can occur from childhood as primary difficulties, such as developmental language disorder or a stammer; or as secondary difficulties due to conditions such as learning disability, autism, hearing impairment and certain mental health conditions. Speech, language and communication needs can also be acquired due, for example, to stroke and dementia.
At Brainwave we see children with a range of conditions many with associated communication difficulties. Our experienced multidisciplinary therapy team will take the time to assess your child’s needs before establishing shared goals. We will then use our knowledge of communication development to create and teach you a home-based programme that you can deliver on a regular basis with our ongoing support.
