Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum

What is Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum?

Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC) is a congenital brain malformation which is usually diagnosed in the first two years of life. It occurs when brain development is disrupted during foetal growth and the tissues that connect the left and right sides of the brain, known as the corpus callosum, are either partially or completely missing.

Symptoms vary but ACC can lead to developmental difficulties in a range of areas as well as seizures. Often one of our Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists will be the first to assess and provide support to children with ACC however this does depend on the child’s needs.
